Agreement on the admission of Morocco and Jordan to the GCC countries block has not yet been reached

The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have not yet reached a consensus on whether Jordan and Morocco should be included in the GCC.

“We are obliged to take into account the experience of other regions and, in particular, the European Union,” said Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, during an interview with media representatives. “As time has shown, the adoption of more than ten countries in the EU led later to a number of serious problems, and also the position of the euro was shaken. At the moment, the leaders of the GCC countries have not yet reached a consensus on Morocco and Jordan. "

Recall that in May 2011, Abdullatif Al Zayani, Secretary General of the GCC, said that the leaders of the countries in the region are discussing applications from Jordan and Morocco to include them in the GCC. According to Al Zayani, the foreign ministers of the GCC countries planned to meet with their colleagues from both countries in order to "complete the necessary procedures." However, Al Zayani did not explain what kind of membership for these two states was discussed.
