Ski Dubai Funds Antarctic Research Expedition

Ski Dubai is a famous indoor ski resort with a total area of ​​22,500 square meters located in the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping centers in the world, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Stuart Brent, Senior Researcher at the SeaWorld Hubbs Research Institute, a marine and coastal life research scientist with 25 years of experience, will lead a scientific expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula of South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. The start of the expedition is scheduled for October 14, 2013. In its course, in-depth studies of penguin colonies will be carried out in order to develop long-term plans for the study and conservation of the population of these polar birds. The project, which was developed jointly with Ski Dubai, is an extension of the program to disseminate knowledge about penguins, their habitat and the impact of changing environmental conditions on biological species, conducted among visitors to this complex.

Ski Dubai has allocated over AED 500,000 (US $ 136,240) to fund a 4-week research expedition. Dr. Brent will spend a week at Ski Dubai, exploring the life of a small group of king penguins and gentoo penguins, home to which is an island of eternal winter, hidden in the heart of the hot Arabian metropolis.
