The Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi, scheduled to open on December 2, 2015, will rent 300 works of art from leading museums and galleries in France.

300 masterpieces of the Louvre

Immortal masterpieces will arrive in the Emirate’s capital: Leonardo da Vinci's Portrait of a Stranger (1495) from the Louvre Museum in Paris, Claude Monet Train Station Saint-Lazare (1877) from the Orsay Museum, Henri Matisse's Still Life with Magnolia (1941) from Pompidou Center, as well as the creations of Vincent van Gogh, Edouard Manet and Andy Warhol. In total, about 300 works from 13 leading museums and galleries in France will be presented. The most valuable works will be exhibited at the Louvre Abu Dhabi for a period of three months to two years: as the young museum builds up its own collection, the most famous paintings in the world will return to the places of permanent exhibition.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi will open its doors December 5, 2015

This project was made possible thanks to the cultural cooperation of France and the UAE: the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the futuristic project of the famous Jean Nouvel, spread over an area of 64 hectares, became its fruit. One use of the name of the largest Parisian museum cost its Arabian twin half a million dollars. The Louvre Abu Dhabi is conceived as a floating city, and its pavilions are separated by canals and connected by lanes and squares. A 180-meter-diameter “lacy” dome will create an effect of magic thanks to the penetration of sunlight.
