The hotel brand refuses miniature cosmetic sets in the UAE

The largest hotel chain is abandoning the usual sets of toiletries in the United Arab Emirates.

On July 30, 2019, the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the largest hotel brand, announced that hotels under all its brands in the UAE and other countries would abandon miniature toiletries in the next two years. This step aims to reduce the amount of plastic waste.

The initiative extends to establishments under the brands InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and voco.

IHG manages more than 200 thousand rooms in European, Middle Eastern and African hotels. Currently, IHG provides its guests with an average of 200 million miniature tanks annually.

Keith Barr, IHG’s CEO, said: “Moving to larger capacity accessories is a big step in the right direction that will allow us to significantly reduce waste and negative environmental impacts.”
