In Dubai, banned smoking hookah during Ramadan

Dubai Municipality has banned serving hookah in traditional tents.

The Dubai municipality has banned serving shisha in traditional tents being built throughout the emirate during the holy month of Ramadan. The ban also applies to cigarette smoking and is valid for the time of the traditional conversation - iftar, namely - from sunset to 21.00.

The ban is aimed at protecting children and pregnant women from secondhand smoke. The municipality is checking all the tents that will open with the onset of Ramadan - May 16 or 17.

It should be noted that hotels are required to present documents to the municipality proving that the entrance to the tent is separated from the entrance to the hotel. In addition, smoking areas should now be strictly isolated from non-smokers and have the necessary ventilation. All materials used in the tents must be non-combustible. Inspectors of the municipality will patrol the tents during iftars and check, including the presence of fire exits and fire extinguishers.
