Dubai car owners will have to renew their license plates in summer

The license plate numbers for the A, B and C series in Dubai will need to be replaced with new ones no later than July 2018.

After the introduction of a new design of license plates in Dubai last year, the replacement of old signs with new ones will become mandatory from July 2018.

Currently, the update is available for all types of special numbers of all series, and from May it will also be available for other characters. Series A, B and C will be one of the first to be replaced without fail.

According to the RTA, over the next few years all categories of car numbers will be replaced.

The new license plate design, which includes the black or white or color logo of Dubai, was launched last year after the introduction of the double series, which required a redesign.

"The RTA has developed a new strategy for license plates, resulting in a new generation of double-plate license plates," said Sultan Al Marzuki, director of the Department of Roads and Transport (RTA) for vehicle licensing.

Double numbers are introduced against the background of the fact that single numbers are coming to an end as the number of cars in Dubai continues to grow incredibly fast. According to the RTA, over the next few years, all categories of vehicle numbers — whether purchased online, auctioned, or received during vehicle registration — must be replaced.

At the next stage, starting in January next year, it will be necessary to replace the numbers of the D, E, F, G, H and I series, and in January 2020 it will come to J, K, L, M, N and O. The remaining series will be in turn. in January 2021.

Depending on the size of the signs and the color of the logo, their prices vary. A regular license plate with a black and white logo costs 35 dirhams ($ US 9.5). A new sign with a color logo will cost 400 dirhams ($ US 108).
