Race cars tested new track in UAE

The highway at Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi is equipped with fog lights and a camel tunnel. At its opening, they arranged a race in sports cars.

A new highway in the Al Dhafra district in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, was opened on Wednesday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, with the participation of members of the royal family and government officials.

The road, worth 5.3 billion dirhams ($ 1.4 billion), increased the number of lanes from two to three in the area on the 64 km stretch between Barakah and Ghuwaifat and another four lanes between Mafraq and Baynounah Forests (182 km).

Race cars took part in the opening of the highway, which arranged a race along a four-lane section of the road.

Each lane holds up to 2.5 thousand cars per hour, said Sheikh Isab bin Mohammed.

Al Dhafra is known as a place with a large number of camels, so their safety has been taken into account. Underpasses have been established under Al Sila and Ghuwaifat so that farmers and camel owners can provide safe passage for animals.

According to Sheikh Isab, the modernization of the road was aimed at improving the safety of road users, reducing the impact of dangerous weather factors and congestion. The highway is now fully lit by LED sources to increase visibility and reduce the risks associated with fog.

For the convenience of motorists, emergency platforms and exits were provided, as well as gas stations in two new places - in the Barakah and Mirfa area.
