Named the main cause of fatal accidents on the roads of the emirate of Sharjah

Speeding while using the phone is the main cause of fatal crashes on the roads of the Emirate of Sharjah.

Sharjah Emirate Police, UAE, reports that speeding while using a mobile phone is the number one cause of all fatal accidents.

Lt. Col. Khalid Al-Qai, deputy director of the emirate’s traffic and patrol department, said drivers between the ages of 18 and 30 were most likely to exceed speed.

Colonel Al-Qai gave an example of such a violation when a young man accelerated to 270 km / h on a Sharjah ring road on a motorcycle. Al-Qai called this behavior irresponsible and demonstrating that people do not even suspect how serious the consequences of such driving can be.

Throughout this year, Sharjah police conducted numerous information campaigns to reduce the number of deaths on the roads of the emirate to three per 100 thousand people.

“However, we cannot achieve this goal without the help of educational institutions, government agencies and road users,” he said.

In the first six months of this year, 6.5 thousand drivers were fined for distraction while driving. Most intruders were distracted by mobile phones. All were fined 800 dirhams ($ 217.8).

Last year, Sharjah law enforcement authorities recorded more than 1,300 violations.
