Dubai motorists will be given a chance to avoid forfeiture of driver’s license

The Dubai Police Department of Traffic has suggested that drivers whose rights must be confiscated upon receipt of the maximum number of “black dots” avoid confiscation by training and paying a fine.

Motorists have the opportunity to remove a certain number of "black dots" until the moment when their number reaches a maximum limit of 24 units. For this, motorists need to attend lectures on road safety held by the department for everyone, and pay a fine of 100 dirhams for each “point” received during the year. The initiative of the department concerns only those drivers who received “black dots” for violations that did not entail personal injury and serious material damage.

Recall that the accrual of "black dots" was introduced by the new federal "Law on Transport", adopted two years ago. It accompanies all serious traffic violations that carry the greatest potential danger to the life and health of third parties. Obtaining the maximum number of “black dots” during the year, 24 units, entails the confiscation of a driver’s license for a period of three months or more.

Statistics for 2008 and 2009 show that 4,980 Dubai drivers received 15 or more black points per year. The maximum limit of 24 points went over 1940 motorists, of which 1740 people were temporarily deprived of a driver’s license.
