Inspectors check Dubai companies for midday break

In Dubai, inspectors will inspect construction sites to ensure they comply with the midday break rule for workers.

Following the entry into force of the midday break for workers on June 15, about seven inspection teams will go to construction sites in Dubai to check if the new rule is being violated, Major General Obaid bin Seror Mucha, chairman of the Standing Labor Commission, said Monday.

A mandatory break from 12.30 to 15.00 for workers will be valid from June 15 to September 15.

Violators will be fined 5,000 dirhams ($ 1.36 thousand) per employee with a maximum amount of 50 thousand dirhams ($ 13.6 thousand). The company’s work may be temporarily suspended due to a violation of applicable rules.

Working hours will be divided into two shifts - morning and evening - for a total of eight hours a day. Extra hours must be compensated in accordance with the rules and regulations.
