Dubai police detained illegal distributor of dietary supplements

Dubai police detained a man offering to buy growth hormone drugs in the fitness centers of the emirate.

Dubai police arrested an Asian-born man for retailing drugs containing growth hormone and used to build muscle in fitness centers in the emirate. 315 boxes of somatropin were seized from a detainee.

Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Chief of Police for Criminal Investigation in Dubai, said the suspect presented himself in sports clubs as a representative of a Middle Eastern company specializing in such drugs.

“Somatropin contains illegal drugs,” Al-Mansouri added.

Dubai police said the suspect also used social media to promote hormone injections.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the police sent a false buyer to the suspect and arrested him in the Bur Dubai area at the time of the transaction. The man claimed that he brought drugs from the UK.

At the same time, Salem Khalifa Al Rumaythi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department, said such funds are dangerous if used without a prescription. He recalled that drugs should be stored in a special way. In addition, they contain prohibited substances, and dosage can harm consumers. Al Rumaithi urged the public to purchase medicines and cosmetics in official stores and pharmacies, and not from individuals.
